Myopia (nearsightedness) is a chronic disease where the eye is elongating, causing symptoms of blurry distance vision.
This eye growth that occurs too quickly weakens the structure of the back of the eye (the retina) and increases the risk of eye disease and long term degeneration.
Global trends indicate that more children are becoming myopic at a younger age and at a faster rate, resulting in higher overall myopia. By 2050, myopic degeneration is expected to become the #1 cause of blindness and visual impairment in the world.
These statistics are not inevitable. We now have FDA-approved methods to decrease the progression of myopia by up to 59%.
